Most diets recommend drinking lots of water, some even recommend as much as 3 or 4 liters per day.

What are your thoughts on this, I find it difficult to drink this much water.

Thank you - Sandra

Hi Sandra,

Water is not quite as simple as it seems.

LOTS of people tell you to drink a lot of water to help you diet, I am not sure about this at all.

I believe that you should drink when you are thirsty and eat when you are hungry. If you drink when you are hungry your body will have been asking for food and you have given it water!!

I believe in responding to your body's signals and not "cheating" it.

Yes a drink of water when you are hungry will stop the hunger sensation for a while, but I firmly believe that the hunger sensation is a positive sensation, it means that you are losing weight (more details in the book).

So I believe that you should not ever FORCE yourself to drink water.

Something else to consider is that one Litre of water weighs ONE KILO in weight, so if you drink a litre of water you will be 2 pounds heavier (until you urinate at least).

So water is essential for health, you must NEVER dehydrate, it can cause serious problems. But I also believe that you should never drink water to lose weight. You will lose more weight if you just stay hungry for a little while longer instead of using water as a "hunger suppressant"

Hi,

I agree completely that water is important for your health and much of the medical advice on this subject makes this clear.

So I always support the use of water sensibly.

The Water Diet, sometimes accepted as the Cold Water Diet, is one of the latest fads that address to dieters who wish to cook abroad their fat. Compared to abnegation "cleanse" diets and those that bind caloric intake, such as the Rice Diet, the Water Diet doesn't absolute aliment consumption, nor does it crave exercise. The address of the Water Diet is that dieters can purportedly eat what they want--and still lose weight.

Why should people drink lareg volumes of water if they are not thirsty?

To me any diet that tries to get you to drink more water than is necessary is not only going to fail, but it is also dangerous.

People have DIED through consuming too much water just to lose weight.

Your body will give you signals when it is thirsty.

You should drink when you are thirsty NOT when you are HUNGRY.

Not only this but one litre of water weighs ONE KILO, so if you are drinking more water to help you lose weight then the weight of the water will actually make you HEAVIER. Not only that but your stomach is a delicate balance of checmical / biology. If you flood it with water it will not function properly, not only will that make you ill but it will force the body to crave dry foods to balance out the excess water and these will be foods that you would not have eaten if you hadn't consumed extra water.

I am very much in favour of water and it is VITAL to get enough, but I cannot support drinking water to lose weight, it is NOT going to work.

It is important to be healthy and doing anything to excess just to lose weight is WRONG !!!!

HI,

Yes, I could not agreee more, water is very important for our body to function correctly.

We must NEVER dehydrate and reduce our water intake beyond what our body needs.

BUT drinking excessive amounts of water is not good for you either.

As with everything, it is always best to avoid extremes.

If you are thirsty, that is the body's way of asking you to drink, if ytou are not thirsty then why drink? You cannot dehydrate if you are healthy and drink when you are thirsty.

Too much water dilutes the stomach functions 9we all know that our stomach contains acids to break down foods, and we all know that water dilutes acid. So drinking TOO MUCH water impacts the balance of your digestive system.

So YES, drink the recommended amount of water and NO LESS, but do not try drinking excessive amounts of water is the (incorrect) beliefe that it will help you to lose weight.

As I say in the book, weigh yourself, then drink a litre of water and immediately weigh yourself again and you will see that you have put on a kilo of weight. That is a scientific fact.
Or just step on the scales and then hold a litre bottle of water and see the effect.

So AS LONG AS YOU ARE DRINKING WHEN YOU ARE THIRSTY, there is no need to drink more than you need.
